Action Research

Action Research:
In the fall I began thinking about how I could meaningfully and purposely further incorporate technology it into my teaching practice.  A fan of new technology and all of its' uses I wanted to use it in a way that wasn't seen as an "add-on" or simply using technology for the use of using it.  Instead, I wanted to explore how I could better teach a curricular area through technology.   I emailed one of our district consultants, Rosamar Garcia who specializes in this area and asked her she wanted to collaborate with me.   We initially met in December and talked about the possibilities such as iPad, etc and Rosamar suggested we use the WeDo Lego Robotics kits with my class.

I knew my class would love working with the lego but we needed to connect it to the curriculum.    Looking at the Science IRP's in both Grades 3 and 4 we decided to focus on the processes of Science.  Using UBD (Understanding by Design) planning, below is a copy of our plans.

We are still currently working with the lego and are enjoying observing the students, recording what we see and what they say and getting an inside look at some of their thoughts through their lego reflection logs.
